Hello! Welcome to the first update & news post! My name is Ritwika Chakrabarti, and I’m the Youth Educator & Advocate here at Project Safe.
The Breaking Silence interns, the textline managers, and myself work for an initiative called Breaking Silence. Breaking Silence works to prevent dating violence in the community by promoting healthy relationships through community tabling events, presentations to schools & organizations, and through our 24/7 youth textline. We are always open to collaborating and working with the community to educate and support the youth. Interested in having Breaking Silence come talk with your organization or youth? You can email me [rchakrabarti@project-safe.org] or the Project Safe email [info@project-safe.org] to set something up!
Speaking of the textline … did you know that the Breaking Silence textline serves the entire state of Georgia? While we typically do school presentations in our service area, we want youth all over Georgia to feel empowered with knowledge around healthy relationships and how to support a friend who might not be in the healthiest relationship. And we’re not talking about just romantic relationships either! We’ve had teens text in around wanting to communicate their emotions with their friends and family as well. We want to support our youth however we can; thus, our textline is 24/7 and always confidential.
Have you had the chance to check out our social media page? We’re on Instagram as @brkingsilence. We have a ton of resources on what a healthy relationship looks like and creative representations of them in our media. Our interns contribute to our content creation in a big way and we are so grateful to have them on our team. Speaking of healthy relationships … what do you think is an aspect of a healthy relationship?
Throughout the next couple of weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from our Breaking Silence intern around their experiences, and our textline manager around their experiences working and supervising the textline. Any questions until then? Feel free to text our textline for additional assistance at: 706-765-8019. Until then, thank you for supporting our mission to prevent dating violence in the community!
